A drunken brawl turned ugly when two men, falsely claiming to be from an English daily, robbed a person of his valuables in J P Nagar police limit.

They were remembered with flowers and tears. Friends, relatives and others paid tribute to the fire tragedy victims on Sunday at a ceremony in front of Carlton Towers.

The fire tragedy at Carlton Towers was a wake-up call to strengthen our civil defence network and create a safe and secure environment in the neighbourhood.

The four persons, arrested in connection with the major fire in Carlton Towers complex, were produced today before a local court which remanded them to one day judicial custody, police said.

Even as the investigation into Tuesday’s devastating fire nears completion, skeletons have begun to tumble out of Carlton Towers. While an electrical short circuit seems to be the cause, the fire exits on many floors were victims of corridor encroachment.

KSRTC and BMTC’s proposal to hike fares by 8% notwithstanding, the board headed by transport minister R Ashoka, who is also chairman of both the corporations, has decided not to increase fares for now.

Sheer coincidence. I was driving on Old Airport Road towards Marathalli, around 5 pm, on February 23. I thought it was a just another traffic jam. Only later did I learn about the fire at Carlton Towers and the resultant tragedy and loss of life.

The fire at Carlton Towers is a warning to all high-rises in the city. Fire & Security Association of India general secretary K P Dominic expressed concern over lack of compliance of fire and safety norms.
